I don’t write horror. But my friend Michaelbrent Collings asked me for a short story to be read aloud with an improvised musical soundtrack provided by mutual friend Craig Nybo and his Rust Monsters. The result is Amahl.

To me, there can be nothing more horrifying than the real life impact of war on children. Amahl is my magical realism foray into portraying that horror, with all its real-world impact.

Winner of the League of Utah Writer’s award for the best short fiction of 2017, Amahl has been anthologized in the Mind Games anthology from the LDS Beta Readers’ group, and in Intersections: An Anthology of Poetry & Prose
